Son Goku at the Tournament.
After training with Master Roshi alongside Krillin for 9 months, Goku is awarded his now famous fighting suit. He has acquired more power than even Roshi suspected he was capable of, and goes on to defeat the monstrous Giran, and the determined Namu.
But he loses in the last round to his teacher, Master Roshi, who is disguised as Jackie Chun. But, true to form, this only makes Goku want to train even harder.
Roshi didn't actually "teach" Goku and Krillin anything. They already knew how to fight, so he just subjected them to daily trials and exercises that boosted their power level to super-human levels.
After the Tournament, Goku (whose tail regrows eventually) leaves his friends to begin hunting for his Grandpa's 4-Star Dragon Ball, only to run into the world's worst criminal syndicate, the Red Ribbon Army.
Son Goku, whose adventure is only just beginning.
